Five Republican state senators are calling on Gov. Bill Haslam to enact "emergency rules" for abortion providers in Tennessee. The lawmakers want the governor to take action to ensure that the illegal sale of fetal tissue after abortions isn't taking place in the state. They want the emergency rules to provide a "chain of custody" until the disposal of the fetus; create a hotline for reporting any illegal activity at abortion clinics; and authorize the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate abortion facilities. In Alabama, a federal judge has blocked an abortion regulations law that could have closed the state’s most popular abortion facility— the West Alabama Women’s Center in Tuscaloosa (WAWC). Currently, WAWC performs about 40 percent of the state’s abortions and it is one of only two facilities that perform second trimester abortions. The legislation passed in 2007 and requires abortionists to obtain admitting privileges at a local hospital or contract with a doctor who can handle abortion complications properly. Read more...

Ben Carson: Abortion Not Acceptable After Rape, Incest

Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson said Sunday that even rape and incest should not be exceptions to abortion bans, and criticized Planned Parenthood as having "racist" roots. "I believe that once conception has been achieved, that it is a human life," Carson said, after he was asked whether he believes abortion bans should exclude rape and incest. "What I have said is that, you know, I have spent my life trying to save life, not trying to destroy it." Read more...

The Racist Views of Planned Parenthood’s Founder

In 1921, Margaret Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which in 1942 underwent a name change to become Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
