A Chance to Defeat More Pro-Death Senators

In 2018, there are many opportunities to replace a pro-abortion United States Senator with a pro-life Senator. Next year Democrats are defending 25 seats, while Republicans are defending only eight. Generally speaking, the best pickup opportunities are in states that voted for pro-life President Donald Trump in 2016, but which have pro-abortion Democratic senators. Read more...

French Law Targets All Pro-Life Websites

The French National Assembly has adopted legislation to make what it calls “spreading misleading information” about abortion punishable with up to a two-year prison sentence and a fine. The law specifically targets “electronic” and “online” means of spreading information with the intention of dissuading women from ending their pregnancy, but its wording is not restrictive. By and large, any person or group aiming to call public attention to the dangers and risks of abortion will be potentially at risk of prosecution. Read more...

Pregnancy Centers May Be Forced to Promote Abortion

House Bill 663 and its companion Senate Bill 501 are making their way through the state legislature, with the House Committee on Health voting 4-3 on Tuesday to recommend passage of the bill with amendments. According to section 321-A of the House version, a "limited service pregnancy center" will have to provide to its clientele the following written notice: "Hawaii has public programs that provide immediate free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services including all FDA-approved methods of contraception, prenatal care, and abortion for eligible women. To determine whether you qualify, contact the appropriate Med-QUEST division eligibility office." Read more...

Pro-Life Center Supports Kansas Ban

The University of St. Thomas Prolife Center filed an amicus curiae brief this week with the Kansas Supreme Court defending a ban on “live dismemberment” abortion during the second trimester of pregnancy, which opponents have argued is a state constitutional right. The heart of the controversy is whether a law that prohibits “live dismemberment,” a particular type of “dilation and evacuation” abortion, is constitutional under the Kansas Bill of Rights. The law was adopted last April, but the plaintiffs—a women’s clinic and the physicians who own it—claim the Kansas Constitution must be read to contain a state constitutional right to abortion that is at least as expansive as the right created by the U.S. Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade. Read more...

Does Planned Parenthood Have Abortion Quotas?

Planned Parenthood clinics had monthly quotas for abortions or abortion referrals, according to two former clinic workers in a new Live Action investigative video. “I trained my staff the way that I was trained, which was to really encourage women to choose abortion; to have it at Planned Parenthood, because it counts towards our goal,” Sue Thayer, a former Planned Parenthood manager at Storm Lake, Iowa, revealed in an interview with the pro-life group Live Action. “We would try to get the appointment scheduled for abortion before they left our clinic.” Read more...

Pro-Life Leaders Wary of Obamacare Replacement

Dozens of pro-life leaders sent a letter to Congress Thursday afternoon urging Republican senators and representatives to honor their commitment to prohibit taxpayer-funding of elective abortion coverage under any health-care bill to replace Obamacare. "Currently, any bill funding healthcare must carry restrictions on abortion funding or it will end up funding the brutal practice of abortion," the letter states. "That is why the Republican platform rightly calls for a 'permanent ban on federal funding and subsidies for abortion and healthcare plans that include abortion.' The platform continues stating, 'We will not fund or subsidize healthcare that includes abortion coverage.' President Trump also pledged his opposition to taxpayer funding for abortion in his 2016 letter to Pro-life Leaders." Read more...

Live Action Backs De-Fudning Effort

Pro-life advocacy group Live Action, joined with members of Congress, called for the ending of taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. "I hope that the sands of time blow over that Capitol dome before we ever give one more dime of taxpayer dollars to this insidious, deceptive, and evil enterprise," said Rep. Trent Franks. The Arizona Republican likened pro-Planned Parenthood talking points to "fake news" and "alternative facts." Read more...
