Report Shows 'Ghastly' Clinic Conditions

In a new report called UNSAFE, Americans United for Life (AUL) gathered and analyzed government inspections from coast to coast. According to the AUL documentation, government inspectors found everything from blood on tables and chairs to a sponge being used repeatedly for a week – without being cleaned. Blood was also being used for storage in the same refrigerator as employees' lunches. Read more...

Despite Attacks, Roy Moore Leads in Poll

Alabama voters are increasingly skeptical of the accusations against GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore, according to new polling released this week that also shows Mr. Moore has recovered his lead in the race. In the middle of November Mr. Moore had lost his lead in the Change Research survey of voters, but is once again back on top in a survey with a 49-44 advantage, the polling company said. Judge Overturns Texas Dismemberment Ban

A federal judge has struck down a Texas law that bans second-trimester dismemberment abortions, those in which an unborn baby is "torn limb from limb" and then extracted from the uterus. U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled that banning dismemberment abortion – a form of "D&E" (dilation and evacuation) abortion – places an "undue burden" upon women. "The State's valid interest in promoting respect for the life of the unborn, although legitimate, is not sufficient to justify such a substantial obstacle to the constitutionally protected right of a woman to terminate a pregnancy before fetal viability," the judge wrote. Did the Bishops' Vote Disrespect the Pope?

Far from being some sort of act of disrespect to the pope, a vote for Archbishop Naumann was a vote to affirm the bishops' broad-gauged pro-life position, which has developed "synodally" over time, while privileging several of the life issues — abortion, to be sure, and, increasingly, euthanasia — rather than muting those issues for the sake of others. Think Abortion Is OK for Rape?

I did not deserve the death penalty for the crime of my biological father. My own birthmother had tried to kill me at two illegal abortions, and was pro-choice when we met 29 years ago, but today, we are thankful we were both protected by law from the horror of abortion. She said back then, the only option she was given was to abort me. She said that there were no pro-life pregnancy resource centers at the time, and no one gave her any other help or hope. Ministerettes 'Bless' Abortion Center

As abortion business Whole Women's Health fights a pro-life law in Texas, area women ministers expressed their support by collectively blessing the pregnancy termination provider. Last week, clergy sang "Alleluia!" as they prayed for the business and its staff. Organizer Kentina Washington-Leapheart of the Religious Institute said the purpose of the media event was to promote the idea that abortion is an acceptable Christian thing to do. "We're trying say (the pro-life) narrative isn't the only narrative related to faith," she explained. Read more...

Church's Pro-Life Display Vandalized

Volunteers at Faith Bible Church placed about 600 white crosses in the church's lawn earlier this month next to a sign that reads "Pray to end abortion." On Tuesday night, the Rev. Gene Harris, the church's pastor, returned from dinner to find the crosses broken and pulled from the ground, he said. "They were carefully and reverently placed, and it's sad that someone would desecrate the cross of Christ," Harris said. "We're not sure if someone specifically wanted to target the pro-life message or if it was just a random act of vandalism." Read more...

Supreme Court to Hear California Law Challenge

The U.S. Supreme Court today decided to hear a pro-life challenge against a California law that forces pro-life centers, such as pregnancy medical clinics, to advertise abortion. The decision marks the first time the country's highest court will hear an abortion-related case during the Trump administration. Pro-life advocates who have opposed the law, including The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), praised the Supreme Court for deciding to hear what it called a "critical free speech case." Bill Would Protect Pro-Life Nurses

Pro-life members of Congress have introduced legislation to protect health care providers from being compelled to provide abortions under threat of losing their jobs. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., held a press conference on the House Triangle outside the U.S. Capitol to promote the Conscience Protection Act. The bill is designed to "end discrimination against people, [insurance] plans and providers for choosing not to be involved in abortion," according to a statement from Smith. Read more...

Ohio Bill Would Block Down Syndrome Abortions

Ohio's GOP-controlled House passed a bill to ban abortions after a fetal diagnosis of Down syndrome. The proposal, which passed 63-30, would penalize doctors who perform those types of abortions. American women choose to terminate pregnancies 50% to 85% of the time after a Down syndrome diagnosis, according to a study published in 2012 in the medical journal Prenatal Diagnosis. Read more...

Second-Trimester Abortion a 'Brutal Procedure'

Attorneys for the state of Texas defended a law restricting the most common second-trimester abortion procedure with testimony from a doctor who described it as a "brutal procedure in which a living human being is torn to pieces." Earlier this year the Republican-led Legislature passed Senate Bill 8, a set of comprehensive abortion regulations that banned dilation and evacuation — a medical procedure used to remove a fetus using surgical tools — unless the fetus is deceased. It is the most common method used to perform an abortion in the second trimester. Read more...

U.S. House Considers 'Heartbeat Protection Act'

A House committee considered a bill that would make it illegal for doctors to perform abortions after a heartbeat is detected. The "Heartbeat Protection Act," authored by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), would make it a crime for a doctor to perform an abortion if the fetus has a "detectable" heart beat. King acknowledged that such a bill, if signed into law, would face legal challenges, possibly going all the way to the Supreme Court. Read more...

Ottawa Students Ban Pro-Life Clubs

A pro-life student group at the University of Ottawa has been censored and stripped of club status because their mandate promotes human rights for all human beings. In a follow-up recent decision, the Student Union on November 5th has now voted to have the Student Union be a "pro-choice" entity only supporting groups that support legalized abortion. The section reads that Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) will "affirms a person's right to choose. No SFUO resources, space, recognition, or funding will be allocated to enhance groups/individuals with the primary/sole purpose of pro-life activities." Read more...
