Pro-Lifer Wins Arizona Special Election

The pro-life Republican backed by two national pro-life groups won the special election against a pro-abortion physician in Arizona's 8th Congressional district to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Trent Franks. Debbie Lesko, a former state lawmaker, beat Democrat Dr. Hiral Tipirneni Tuesday in a special House election by 5 percentage points. Louisiana Senate Passes 15-Week Bill

The Louisiana Senate strongly supported a bill Tuesday that would prohibit abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. State Senate Bill 181 passed in a 31-3 vote, and now moves to the state House for consideration. More than 200 unborn babies could be saved from abortion every year if the bill becomes law. Data from the state Department of Health indicates about 200 unborn babies were aborted after 15 weeks of pregnancy in 2017 in Louisiana. Read more...

South Bend Mayor Vetoes Women's Center

Mayor Pete Buttigieg has announced his decision to veto a rezoning bill that would allow a pro-life center to move right next to a proposed abortion clinic. The Common Council approved plans to rezone the area along Lincolnway West between the airport and Bendix Drive so Women's Care Center -- which is an organization against abortion -- could put a location there. Tennessee Plans 'Monument to Unborn Children'

Tennessee is moving ahead with plans to construct a monument that will honor the lives of unborn children who were victims of abortion. "The taking of the life of a baby in the womb is related to this brand of inhumanity," state Rep. Bill Dunn (R-Knoxville) said. The Tennessee Senate passed a bill earlier this week to develop and implement a plan for the commissioning of the memorial. Read more...

Clinic Attacks New Mississippi Abortion Law

The last abortion facility in Mississippi filed another lawsuit to overturn a state law that prohibits abortions on unborn babies after 15 weeks. The Jackson Women's Health Organization and the Center for Reproductive Rights allege a whole group of state laws are unconstitutional because they restrict women's access to abortion. Their lawsuit challenges the 15-week abortion ban, a 24-hour waiting period, a requirement that appointments between a doctor and patient be in person, a requirement that only doctors perform abortions and several abortion clinic regulations. Planned Parenthood Slams Trump Nominee

President Donald Trump has held true to his promise to nominate pro-life judges to key judicial roles. One of his latest, Wendy Vitter, a strong pro-life advocate, is up for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to consider her confirmation. But Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups are lobbying aggressively against Vitter, claiming she would be "disastrous" for the future of legalized abortion. Read more...

Pope's Statement 'Confuses Abortion Issue'

Pope Francis' new apostolic exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate "blurs lines and causes confusion" about the gravity of abortion, the leader of a pro-life group that majorly influences U.S. politics said. Pope Francis wrote that migration shouldn't be seen as a "secondary" or "lesser" issue to "'grave' bioethical questions" and that helping "victims" of "every form of rejection" is just as important as defending the pre-born. Wisconsin Ends Abortion Coverage for Employees

Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill that ended abortion coverage for state employees. This bill, which Republicans exclusively passed in February, prohibits state employees who receive government-provided health care from getting abortions paid for, except in cases of rape and preservation of the mother’s life. Pro-Life Wisconsin state director Dan Miller said in a statement that the group is “grateful” to Walker for signing the bill because it shows respect for those taxpayers who oppose public funding of abortion. Gag Order Stands in Undercover Video Cases

The Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from a pro-life group seeking to release undercover footage detailing alleged misconduct in the abortion industry. Alberta Bill Would Ban Pro-Life Protests

Alberta Health Minister Sarah Hoffman has announced that lawmakers will soon introduce legislation imposing “buffer zones” around abortion facilities, to prevent pro-life volunteers from attempting to change women’s minds. Bill 9, which is titled the “Protecting Choice for Women Accessing Health Care Act,” may be tabled by Thursday, the Edmonton Journal reports. Deputy house leader Kathleen Ganley also confirmed plans to pursue the measure. Critics say the bill is yet another strong-armed measure of the province's NDP government that attacks the rights of law-abiding citizens. Read more...
